They don't make things like they used to...sort of

Everyone knows the old saying...but a new study on whether century old violins, largely believed to have superior tone quality, actually have better sound says "no." In fact, one of the most famous old violin brand came in last...

A new study sought to figure out whether or not old masterly built violins sounded better than modern master instruments. Long believed that old is greater for a number of theories, (old wood, old varnishes, aging, even climate shift) the test actually showed that the majority of experts can't tell the difference and that many, when blindfolded, chose the newer violins over the old.

Some experts dismiss the claims however, saying the test wasn't conducted in the right setting and that it takes a seasoned ear to tell what's better about the old sound.
