Get To Know The Pfister Hopefuls

Maybe I'll finally bring together a good body of work and apply next year, but until then, check out the most recent group of hopefuls for the Pfister Residency.

In terms of artistic styles, I am drawn to the work of Pamela Anderson and Brandon Minga. Anderson has an abstract expressionist style, somewhat resembling the work of Frankenthaler and the more colorful work of Franz Kline, while Minga tends to use more collage and found objects to put together his "surreal" subjects and scenes, evoking memories of a cleaner Robert Rauschenburg...(not that their work has any relation subject or concept-wise...just trying to describe aesthetic similarities)

Nothing against the other artists, their work just isn't my thing. I think an interesting choice would be the costume designer Timothy Westbrook, as I've never really seen or known anything about that side of art. I think it would be a huge shift for the residency and would really open up interest to some new avenues and people...for me though, costume design just doesn't hold the same effect as a great painting (and that's obviously personal preference). I think my initial interest would be there...but after the first look and meeting the artist, I think I would definitely ....find less in the work. Nothing against it...just not my thing.

Take a look at the link above and then go vote for your fave!
