Kids and Matisse.

Kid says "how did he do it?"
Adults says "my kid could do that."
http://hyperallergic.com/129532/kids-looking-at-matisse/

I saw a show of Picasso, Matisse, and Van Gogh (and probably many others) when I was very young as it came through Chicago…I honestly remember the old ladies reading street signs and "Dear Theo" playing on the bus ride more than the actual art…but I remember be awestruck…interested…energized. You just enjoy art as a child…when you get older, you try to figure it out. We should really work on that...

Nobody Wants the Olympics.

When people began to open the discussion of bringing the Olympics to Milwaukee, I laughed…and then when I realized they were serious, I frowned.

Let's get this out of the way, I LOVE watching the Olympics. No sporting event intrigues me quite like the long list of random, lesser-known and obscure sports than theta of the Olympics…but watching is very different from hosting…and if Milwaukee hosted the Olympics, I'd be the first to take a month or two off from work, rent out my apt. to the highest bidder, and get the hell out of town. It's not that the Olympics are bad…it's that HOSTING the Olympics is bad…and it seems like every other city is catching on…Take a look.

Relentless Literalism: The 9/11 Memorial Museum and the Death of Subtlety.

The new 9/11 Memorial Museum opened to a chorus of praise and its fair share of criticism…but what many critics seem to ignore is the main question before us…is a museum necessary in the first place?
http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/arts/la-et-cm-911-museum-review-20140526-column.html#page=1

And apart from the 9/11 Museum, think about the question in terms of art and creativity in general. Are we still going to museums to experience something or to be told what's in front of us, what to think? Do we view art with the same giddy curiosity as we sit down to take-in a movie or do we demand an explanation, a synopsis, the second the first piece crosses our view? Do you go to a gallery for the beer or to actually look at art?

Are we looking or experiencing?
