Big East POY Candidate Almost Died...Twice
Big East Player Of The Year Candidate Herb Pope took a slightly detoured route to basketball fame from his star-powered counterparts Derrick Rose, Kevin Love, and OJ Mayo, who all graduated the same year and were similarly compared with Pope.
Instead of playing some college and then moving up, he almost died...twice. When he was 17 he was shot five times after a late-night fight...and then when 21, he collapsed on the stairs to the weight room, his heart stopped, and the school even prepared a press release announcing his death. Now he's having his best year ever, a Player of the Year candidate in the Big East, and a sure pick for the NBA. Take a look.
