A morbid fact many people don't realize is that Mt. Everest is so tall...so hard to climb, that large portions of it bar any type of rescue attempt due to the lack of oxygen at those levels. "The Death Zone" as the area above 26K feet is called, brings quick changes in weather, temperature drops, very low oxygen and all the problems that come with those. Due to this, many of the climbers who have died climbing the mountain are still stuck on the slopes...too dangerous for anyone to attempt to move them. Sherpas try to cover some...some have flags placed over them, some have rocks piled atop, but some simply lay in the very position they fell 10, 15, even 70-some years ago as a grim reminder to current climbers.
Interesting article. Graphic photos.
