Now this is the Blueprint for you. Yeah… you.

Today I would like to take a moment to talk about a wonderful person who I feel deserves more recognition for his incredible work. A long-time and active member in Rhymesayers ranks, Blueprint is perhaps best known as one half of Soul Position with producer RJD2. His newest work has been around for a minute now, but he keeps himself busy writing books and self-directing his music videos.

Love the shout-out to Eyedea at the end of the video)

For those that have followed Blueprint throughout his extensive underground career, the title of his last album, Adventures In Counter-Culture (20011) is so accurate in its own right. It was produced in its entirety in his own studio in his own neighborhood under his own careful and precise hand. The theme strides toward the idea that hip-hop music is truly an art form. The songs are comfortable, despite the fact that he sometimes ignores choruses and features one continuous verse throughout the entirety of the song. As he professes in the song Radio-Inactive, “I rhyme for five minutes straight with no breaks, no hooks, no punch lines and no similes so I’m easy to overlook.”

To top it all off he wrote an entire book about his experience making the music. It’s available for only $6 on Amazon.com and provides amazing insight into the whole 5-year process.

Give him a listen, especially if you’re not 100% convinced in the “hip-hop is art”argument.
