This piece is probably one of my favorite accidents of all time...and it truly was an accident.
Dreaming in The Garden is literally a different painting. If you flip it over, the way the canvas is supposed to go, you'll see a very expressive and detailed painting of an eye. If you turn it back over, you get the image you see above. This is the bleed-through of the underpainting of the eye...the paint that soaked through the sheet when first applied and is now, at least when looked at from the other side, hidden by about 8 layers of paint.
I just love it. I have no idea if it was just a swarm of colors or the actual plan for the eye, but it's just stunning...and even moreso that it's not simply a throw-away, it wasn't even a painting at all...
This is what's on the other side...and I'm not saying i don't like it or that it's bad. Many people REALLY like this one, and i was a pretty big fan as well....it just doesn't speak to where I am now very welll it's no longer representational of me as an artist.
Not sure what I'll do here...Both sides are interesting...but right now I'm definitely more attracted to the reverse side...
