Phantom Limb: The Artist's Hand, or Lack-there-of, in Painting

Check out this review/preview of "Phantom Limb: Approaches To Painting Today" at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. A very interesting looking show exploring the different roles that the artist's hand plays in the medium of paint.

This is an investigation that is very dear to me. Application is just as much a medium as the paint or ink you're using, and without treating it as such, a piece can be completely compromised by a hand  inappropriate to the concept. It's something I've really begun to investigate in my own work and have really seen some great advancement in. As much as you may be comfortable with a medium, the application of that medium is equally important to the resulting piece...

Here's a couple pieces that explored a different role of the artists hand.
