The Pulitzer Prize has gotten blasted via twitter, blogs and the overall web for its snub of any fiction award this year. The board reviewed finalists and could not come to a majority vote on any of the books.

I haven't read any of the books so I can't say for sure...but sometimes prizes just shouldn't be given. It's embarrassing to the participants, it's a let down for readers and authors...but let's face it, there's not always worthy recipients. Maybe that's not the case here and they should have picked one...but I dunno...on one hand I'd rather see the award not awarded unless something REALLY deserves it, on another hand something undeserving winning does make for good news...
I guess we should just settle down. If they didn't like any of the books enough to put their very prestigious stamp on it, maybe authors just need to step up their game a bit...and I suppose that's where I'm deciding to land on the issue. Whether or not there was a book worthy, maybe authors and publishers should stop screaming about not winning and start looking for a book that really, obviously deserves to win for next year.
I mean...if you don't get picked for the team, the kid that cries and gets put on a team by the teacher gets made fun of. If you take it and work at the game, get better, and play hard, maybe you'll actually get good enough to be picked legitimately next time. But that takes work of course...crying is easier.
