I mean, who really, besides maybe botanists and intense gardeners, ever dwell on the shape of a flower?
But I suppose that's the point. You don't sit and scrutinize a bed of flowers, a forest of trees, or a flock of birds, so why then must it always happen on such a critical level with art? Why do people need to feel something specific, to be told what to look at, be told what to think when they are very capable of observing something on their own.
I get that people want to "get" the art and that's important as well...I just find it interesting that "getting" a piece, for many viewers, seems to be more important than actually looking at the piece, experiencing it, and having a genuine reaction.
I guess I'm just saying to relax about art. "Getting" a piece, in the sense of knowing exactly what the artist intended, isn't the key to enjoying art...relaxing, enjoying it for what it is, and experiencing how it affects you is the better way to go...
