Big Fossil Stumps Experts


450 million years ago, Cincinnati was covered by a 100-200 ft deep sea that contained a bunch of primitive shellfish, but no fish. That's why a fossil 6 feet long and 3 feet wide has scientists scratching their heads...it's just too huge for the area and in comparison to any other fossil find from there. Small details seem to look like animal characteristics, but because of what they know about the lack of fish at that time, they expect it's some large plant-related object but admit "This one has us stumped."
