I added some more neutrals to the last one quick last night and I really do think it helps to settle the piece down. With how expressive and gestural the words are, I think it's going to be very important to stay in control when I start moving to the detailing of the piece. I don't want it to become this mish-mash of colors, but a very strong, bold and impactful statement. Sometimes the super detailed pastel works well as with many other of my pieces, but when it doesnt, they can end up looking impressionistic or pointalist....interesting, beautiful but not very striking or meaningful. (sorry for the backhanded compliment impressionism.)
