I did some late night painting last night which my brain is paying for today...but o well! Nothing a pot of coffee and a whole lotta work can't fix.
As of right now, I like the first piece more. THe second, while interesting and having potential, looks too unfocused for me. It's a bit like I just dropped the shapes from above and let them scatter themselves...creating a piece that is just kind of "there." it doesn't have a focal point...it doesn't have the dynamics that a good composition has...it's just floating...but I definitely see a direction (We'll revisit this guy tomorrow...)
The first piece "The Jungle" is a pleasant surprise. The smallest piece I've done in a while at only 12x12, but it really glows! I like the idea that you are coming out from the darkness into light. The jungle is what you are leaving, what's behind you. While bringing in the claustrophobia, anxiousness, and danger in the title, it's relieved when you see the bright light before you...The jungle, that which is unknown, is NOT what the painting is about...but rather it's opposite...the lack of the jungle...the escape
