Sean Scully and the Chazen Expansion

The new Chazen expansion is open and home to some work by Sean Scully that evokes the monumental as well as the intropective. Good review...I think the reviewer and the curators go a bit overboard with their praise of the work and "descriptions" to the point that, sometimes, it's a little hard to see what they really are trying to say, what they really think people should get out of it, but It is interesting work. For instance, they are "unapologetically romantic" yet carry the weight of a timeless monolith. Or, comparing them to Rothko, then immediately stating "don't compare them to Rothko." I feel the writer could have simplified his assessment a bit, especially after stating that the work is not for the viewing elite, but for all of us. If so, I hope the work reveals its purpose and it's emotion a little more clearly than the article so that "all of us" can actually get something meaningful out of it... Overall a good article though...

The pieces on the right seem far more interesting to me...
