Feeling Motherwell-y, and that's a good thing

I did this piece last night and, originally, it was a vertical piece which I had no interest in, nor any intention of posting it. It sucked. HOWEVER! since my camera doesn't format for vertical pictures unless you change it after bringing it on the compy, I was forced to look at it this way and it looks completely 100% better. Sometimes it's really hard to pick out what exactly changed, but the balance is better, the boldness seems much more thought out and the color has such a better effect. By no means is it done, but the effect that a 90 degree turn had on this piece astounded me...from a piece I was ready to completely paint over to one that holds a great deal of promise...kind of reminds me of a Robert Motherwell piece right now, not to say it's anywhere near as good. Motherwell did some awesome work like the piece below, an aesthetic I've always loved though, as I've said before, have a hard time keeping that simple throughout the painting process. Great stuff though, I can only hope my piece gives rise to something as striking...
