Is OWS adoption of Fawkes' mask appropriate

Guy Fawkes, while symbolizing the graphic novel V for Vendetta to most youth today, was actually, quite literally, a terrorist. His goal and reason for execution was the attempted bombing of the houses of parliament in the 1600s. In other words, he didn't like what the government was doing, so he tried to blow up a government building (for the purpose of restoring a Catholic Monarch no less).

Im a HUGE fan of the novel and movie, just so you know, but it kind of perplexes me to see people wearing the mask in the OWS movement. I suppose they are taking the "spirit" of the meaning, the ability to act, the gusto to do so, and the acceptance of the consequence of action. To not stand by while a government 'has its way with you,' but I also wouldn't be surprised to learn that the majority have no idea about the history of the actual guy or what he tried to do.

It's just kind of interesting, especially after all the fear and hate from modern terrorism, that a terrorist's mask (while that may not be the widely understood origin) now symbolizes the 99%.
