The Stockholm County Administration Board has formally requested an investigation and response to allegations that the Nobel Peace Prize no longer reflects the will of the prize's founder, Alfred Nobel. Peace researcher Fredrik Heffermehl, who got the request enacted due to numerous complaints, claims that the prize was founded to reward those who sought to diminish military strength and use, and increase international relations. He was quoted as saying the award was for "champions of peace," complaining that recent recipients, while affecting world peace indirectly, were not specifically fighting for the interest of world peace and were not working to reduce military.
Recent recipients include Al Gore, for his work on global warming, and Barack Obama for his "extraordinary efforts"to boost international diplomacy.
A secretary of the Norwegian Nobel committee denied the claims, saying the causes of past winners have directly influenced fraternity between nations..
