Humans Played Bigger Part in Africa Deforestation Than Previously Thought

Despite a longstanding belief that long dry-spells led to the deforestation of central Africa, new research suggests that humans had a much bigger part in the logging than previously thought. Around 3,000 years ago, scientists found that weathering on the banks of the Congo River greatly differed from weathering patterns from the previous 40,000 years. Because of this, something drastic had to have happened to the environment in order to cause such a change in such a brief period of time.
