The Mural
So Saturday has come and gone and the Mural is up! It took about 6 hours of work for me to complete. The wall ended up being about 15x15 feet which was bigger than I remembered, but was accessible with a few rickety ladders, some lanky arms and jumping.
I never really had any idea of what exactly I was doing, just a vague idea of style and that I wanted it to be representational and most likely a head, but after my usual fumbling around, working on color and composition, an image and goal began to emerge. To tell the truth, there was a bit of time I wasn't sure if I would be happy with how it turned out. A lot of things seemed to not be looking quite the way I wanted, the wall was much more square than I had remembered, and the height of the wall mixed with the frightening wobbliness of the tall ladder caused some problems and lead to some loss of confidence in the early going, but, like most pieces, it started to come together after about an hour or two of painting and repainting the general shapes and colors of the image. I wanted it to stem from much more primal, primitive or tribal imagery and also wanted a very energetic and engaging piece.
I am very happy with the final image below and was happy with the response and attention that was given throughout the process. Thanks to everyone that helped out, came to visit, and made the final stages a lot more fun. Thanks to Motherfool's for the opportunity and I am planning on writing a much more in depth blog about the whole process, as well as putting together a "coffee table book" with all the pictures and everything. Take a look at my new facebook album with my horrible photos (and some great ones from Tyler Busey) and keep a lookout for more!
