The Man in the Matador's Hat
This is strange piece. It's been hanging in my house as something that I didn't really like for over a year before, finally, I decided to scrap it and start over. Pretty much nothing other than texture is left over from that old piece. I guess this piece is about Picasso to tell the truth. Or at least inspired by his ever-loving depictions of bull fights, myths of centaurs, and constant obsession with the bull-fighter. I thought I'd pay my homage. Having seen a bull-fights, there is a brutality that is almost surprising. It takes a second to realize they are actually, straight-up killing a bull and, political discussion aside, it's a little strange to stand up and cheer. The bull-fighter is seen as the conqueror, much as Picasso viewed himself, and in that regard, I suppose it is a sort of portrait of the great artist. With all the beauty stemming from his genius, and the ugliness followed closely behind. It's a portrait, but not a regal portrait of "The King of Art." A much more close to home view of the man with his artistic sheen left behind.
