The NFL labor negotiations are all about who gets how much money and we all know that. But something that has surfaced, not really surprisingly, is that players, even after only 90-some days, are completely broke. Some are taking out loans of 400K with 23% interest, others, like Raheem Brock, are just skipping out on bills. Brock was arrested for skipping out on a 27$ restaurant tab and then resisting the polices efforts. The thing that sticks out here is that he either chose not to pay just cuz, or he didn't have the money to pay. If it's the latter, WHY in the HELL is he going out to eat!!! Do NFL players even know what the purpose of money is?
"you mean I actually have to have MONEY in an account to pay for things? I thought i just gave you my card and money just magically appears when you run it through a scanner."
I mean really, No sympathy for guys that make at the minimum 500K per year and don't have some kind of money saved.
Here's my take. Screw arguing for more money out of the pie...you guys will all just waste it anyways. More money equals more things to buy...instead give each player a personal financial advisor. They may not get a bigger check, but they will make up the difference in the amount that they save every year for the future.
I think it comes down to this. Some guys are responsible and will save the money they make. If they make more, they will save more. Other guys, no matter how much they make, will find ways to spend it. If they have 1 million, they'll spend 1 million. However, if they make 2 million, that won't translate into "spend the normal 1 million and save the other million." i see it more as make 2 million, spend 2 million. And that's the problem. No matter how much you give them, they will need more to sustain themselves.
If they have a financial advisor that helps control spending and saving, I think they could end up making up the difference in salary totals by saving and investing.
I really dont think giving them more money per year is going to translate to more money in the long run.
