Architect Frank Gehry designed the proposed Eisenhower Memorial around the popular idea that he was a "barefoot boy" from Kansas who rose to the presidency and ultimately saw the most deadly war in history come to an end. But family members don't seem impressed by the "barefoot boy" mantra or the design of the memorial and raised concerns with the board about whether the process of building the memorial should be slowed down and reviewed. In fact, the whole design is being somewhat kept under wraps...and many politicians are opposing it as time moves forward...

Unlike most criticisms of modern art, I actually agree here. Basically...the whole things seems crazy. The thing is 4 acres of some kind of steel mesh with giant 80 ft columns with no Eisenhower to be seen. I don't really understand the concept behind the whole idea, It's extremely hard to tell what's going on or what it has to do with Eisenhower, and it just seems extremely over-indulgent. Check out this website with the goal of stopping the memorial, and click the links to see photos and plans of the controversial design...
