Class Warfare: The New Crown
I did this piece Saturday and it stands about 4x5'. For size reference, those honeycomb patterns are from my shoes.
The idea here was to be big and bold with complex idea. The piece, titled Class Warfare, very much is commenting on the political rift between the groups. This crown, unlike the real crowns that once signified importance, is fluid, messy, organic...it's basically representing a shift in the way we think of power. It's not something awarded, something concrete that you have and always will...it's ever evolving...it's something you earn and need to continue earning. It's something you build. It can be taken away, it can be lost, it can be removed, it can fall apart...This crown is not a sign of dominance...it's a sign of responsibility and what one has built with that responsibility. A crown is no longer handed to you for reaching the top, it is built on each step you took to get there.
