Live Slow, Die Old...Really Old

Taking the opposite of "Live fast, die young" to the extreme, a certain ancient bacteria lives under the bottom of the ocean for millions upon millions of years, but it just barely lives in order to do it. First found in the 1990's, scientists dismissed these organisms as dead, but now researchers are seeing that they've been alive, just barely, with metabolisms that are nearly undetectable with our time-scale.
