Using Math To Solve A Bussing Problem

Ever wonder why you stand at a bus-stop, sometimes up to 20 minutes, only to see two of the same buses right behind each other? It's called bus-bunching, and it's nothing new, caused by anything from human error to weather to traffic. But researchers recently applied a math theorem to bus scheduling, predicting the long-term behavior of the drivers and setting up a guidance system for them to follow.
