Massive Asteroid 'Vesta' Deemed Protoplanet

one of these things is not like the others...
For the first time ever, scientists have laid their eyes on what a planet may look like in the early stages of formation. After investigating images of the asteroid Vesta, the second largest object in the asteroid belt between Jupiter and Mars, scientists have deemed that it was on its way to become a planet in the early days of our solar system, but was beaten out by other objects which ended up as the eight planets we see today. The find not only confirms long held theories, but allows scientists to make predictions on solar system formation and help us to further understand our universe. Take a look...
