MAM Drops The Ball For One Entusiastic Student

The Milwaukee Art Museum attempted to hold a competition allowing MPS kids to enter musical compositions that would accompany the opening and closing of the building's fames wings but when only one kid entered, they pulled the plug, diverting blame, and really disappointing one very enthusiastic and talented student. Take a look.

This is very disappointing. Not only did one kid work very hard to get his piece done, but because of the MAM's lack of ability to run a legit competition, hundreds of volunteer hours were wasted, one kids project is ignored, and no one is held accountable, except of course the lazy students and teachers who didn't answer the call. Get real MAM, you're the biggest cultural center in the state. There's no reason at all that only ONE KID in all of MPS would take up the challenge unless something wasn't taken care of correctly. Furthermore, if you have a competition, you should follow through, despite a bad turnout. Being embarrassed about a bad turnout does not make it OK to cancel it when one person went above and beyond what was required.

The saddest thing here is that one kid did his part of the competition, and because the organizer didn't like how the thing was shaping up, decided that it wasn't worth it. It was worth it for the one kid...and that should make it worth it to you since, ya know, education and support of the community, I thought, is what museums are about.

It's just a pathetic response from what should be a fantastic institution.

on another note I agree with that last paragraph about the music with the wings opening...the first time I heard that I burst out laughing at how over-the-top dramatic and comical it really was. Not classy at all.
