I always forget about these two pieces...not because I don't like them, but in my flurry of painting action, some things just go immediately into the pile and get forgotten till I need to look for something to paint over or have a show coming up.
I think it's interesting how they work off of each other...both have aspects of landscape while still holding a surreal and ethereal quality. Each can be seen as a flat surface of marks and color, or equally so as a vast and endless mountain range. I guess that's good. That's seeing the small and the big, the juxtaposition of private and public...the idea that nothing is quite what it seems, yet everything is exactly what it is (wait...what did I just say?). The option for something to be tailored to suit the viewer...the idea that the piece changes with whomever views it...
It can only be universally important if it touches everyone individually.
