"The Year I..." finally done.

I know I've posted this piece a few times already, but I finally think it's done.

The Year I Became A Liar

I'm very happy with the juxtaposing aesthetics and ideas in the piece. The piece directly depicts the title, the original layers being covered by blankets of white, new "truths" growing atop that, covered again, and finally, covered with a new depiction of the underlying subject. In effect, the final piece is a lie itself, pretending to be the final stage, yet in truth, built over time, layer by layer, mark by mark. While the top layer dominates the initial view, the earlier "truths" scratch through and can never really be totally covered and forgotten.

Along with the interaction conceptually, you also get an interesting conversation aesthetically. At parts, the piece seems relaxed, simple, even minimal. Yet when you reach the center, it explodes with writhing action. The piece is subdued with a minimal palettes, yet the mark-making creates a sense of increasing tension.

Not to mention...it looks damn good in a frame.
