Splash & Commissions

I got to working on a few pieces for Splash studio last night and got two pieces pretty close to done...

I've got a blurry photo of a barn and one of some wine, and I think the wine is my fav right now, of the three I started (one not pictured cuz it's barely there). They've definitely got a more illustrative feel to it..But that's on purpose as other people will be picking these out to paint themselves...but the colors really pop and I feel like it's got some life and emotion behind the strokes and marks...They aren't intimidating and really pop off the wall, and I think they will be a great draw to those people looking to get something a little different on their walls.

And then I also got a commission mostly done and will be sending that off soon as well.

Some people wonder how a house can be an interesting subject, and how it can grow into an interesting piece. It's a great investigation into the effects of color, line, control and mark-making. Each variable effects the subject's emotion so greatly in pieces like the above house (especially compared to some of my more personal work) that the work becomes less about instinct and process, and more about understanding what you are trying to show. It's a different approach to painting, and while that may irk most other artists, I'm always interested in a shift of focus, style, and meaning.
