There in the Midst of It, The Soul That You Can See
So I think it's done and I'm pretty happy with it. I'm a huge fan of how bold the figure is. The one thing I may yet change is to take some black and cover just a bit of the beige surrounding the yellow at the top left...seems to be too large a block of color compared to the rest of the composition...It has seemingly taken on a bit of a religious connotation because of the "halo" and I don't think that's a bad thing. It is supposed to be a portrait that looks deeper than the physical appearance, more in depth than any look could give you. It's supposed to show the underlying emotion, the soul, the spirit...and with how I have begun to view religion and what it means to me, I would say that calling this a "religious" portrait, wouldn't be completely inaccurate. It is a portrait of the spirit, a portrait of that which comprises us, that which we cannot grasp or see, but feel wholeheartedly. In some way, I suppose that's a religious idea of the self and the portrait without speaking to specific idea and I definitely think that's valuable.
