The New Demotic

Demotic is a form of ancient Egyptian that was developed for everyday use around the 7th century BC, and used  for writing up till the Late Graeco-Roman periods...why does this really matter? I dont know, it might not. But it came up while i was researching a bit today about hieroglyphs and I think it's an interesting concept. It was a form of language meant for writing, meant to be different from the pictoral hieroglyphs. At one point, historians believe it was phonetic, the "symbols" referring directly to the dialect, but as it gained status and was used for primarily literary and religious purpose, the "symbols" seemed to stray from the spoken word, moving toward more artificial characters...

My thought on this is as follows. If you can create a language or a system of writing which is more artificial than actually representational, more "the idea of the word" than a pronounceable alphabet, can you create an emotional alphabet which a person can "read", follow the ebb and flow of the feeling and come out with a "story" of emotion? Could you create a path for someone to follow and lead them to a specific feeling or idea. A specific thought or outlook? Could someone inexplainable through the spoken word be written down? I suppose that's my next idea for a piece. Something similar to the pieces above...a string a symbol, color, and action...energy and flow...suspense and ecstasy...can you make a piece that  people can read for themselves or does art need to have a subject, symbolism, and statement?

Can you make a universally readable image or are we stuck with understanding only what we can put into words?
