I'll consider this a success. After being up in Crossings gallery for all of one week, "Rolling Fields" sold. I kind of bashed the piece at first as a rather mundane "easy" piece of work, which is kind of was, but that's not to say it isn't beautiful. I guess I just mean that that kind of piece is the bread and butter of how I really got into painting. It was my go-to technique for many years and I produced approximately a bazillion barns, landscapes, cityscapes, still lifes, and portraits throughout high school in this style. It was the beginning of my arty-ness, the beginning of who i am now and we all have a little bit of dread when thinking about how we were as a teenager (i was a chubby kid)....I can't say I dislike this stuff, I was trying to get a foot in, trying to do something I thought was different, trying to emulate an art idol while doing subjects that were a bit more specific to me.
It might not be Guernica but it's not Thomas Kinkade either...it was how I got started and I have to appreciate it for that...besides...it sells like hot cakes so i can't complain. So forget all that artsy bullshit...some art is easy, free and fresh and I suppose it's pointless to try to make it something deep and meaningful when it's soul purpose is just to make you feel better. I can deal with that and you should be able to also.
Farewell "Rolling Fields," hope your new home is badass.
