"God Is In The Radio" and other things...

God Is In The Radio
Bless The Rain...(in progress)
These are my two newest piece, the first was part of the timelapse practice project, the second has been worked on for about two hours, starting last night around 10pm. I have wanted to do another piece based on text for a while...to tell the truth, "God Is In The Radio" is actually somewhat text based. The initial black marks created the word "Cy," a minor tribute to the recently deceased artist, Cy Twombly. BUT I wanted to do one that was wholly based off of text, even an entire phrase. Inspired in part by Twombly and the Basquiat doc. I was wathing, I went from eating popcorn to completely repainting an entire canvas that had been sitting in my room. I chose the phrase "Bless be the rain that falls the leaves, our weathered fears." Something I thought had both a positive and negative potential meaning for me and the viewer, and a phrase that could muster some good discussion. I also didn't want the phrase to dominate, preventing the viewer from investigating the piece as a more abstract and expressive work....anyways, theres a lot of work yet to be done and if you have watched the time lapse from the previous post, you can see it may turn out completely different. Either way, I am very happy with how it started. A bit more moody than my most recent work has been, a lot more energetic, and a very interesting path to take with a large piece...check in tomorrow or so to see the piece when its done!
