3,000,000 is a big number
This guy has driven a world record 2.9 million miles in his 1966 Volvo...a record that is probably 30 times what most people drive there cars to...and at 40 years plus, probably 4 times the years that most people own a single car.
What first has to be seen is the amazing endurance of the car. Kudos to Volvo for making a car that can even stay together that long, let alone continue driving at a normal pace. But even more so, think of the dedication from the owner. Many people tire of cars within a year or two of purchasing, some even rent cars so that they can get a new one without being on the hook for the whole chunk of change. This guy not only has stuck with his car for 40 years, but has given it the time and care that most household pets don't even receive.
No I'm not saying he's a some kind of hero, but it does point to the ease at which we discard things. Next time your looking at your 10 year old "beater," or a 2 year old computer, just think...you could have nothin and if ya actually put forth an effort, you could have a 3million mile machine.
