I watched "Titanic" on TV recently and then painted this....subliminal messages much? It wasn't on purpose actually but kind of a funny coincidence. To tell the truth, you could say this piece has been in progress for about four months. The piece of cloth had been on my art table since I painted "universal elegance" a while ago and has been slowly accumulating paint splotches, stains, and random brushstrokes till finally, last weekend, I remembered it existed! And lucky for me, the paint splotches, stains, and general "mess" created some cool objects and shapes and didn't just look like a pile of shit. From those came the Icebergs in the piece and a large red spill (wine?) started me on the vibrant background. I want to ad a lot more detail to the sky to get across the fractured look that an ice-flow actually has, almost like a reflection of the sea below but we'll see how that goes. I like that is has a much different palette than most ocean scenes, and positive or not, I feel that it gives an uneasiness to the piece that keeps me looking...anyways, lotsa work to do still but after four months, it's finally more than a balled up piece of canvas.
