Italy's Top Scientists Resign

Top scientists from Italy have resigned their posts in reaction to the recent ruling which sent six scientists to jail for failing to predict a 2009 earthquake that killed a number of people. Scientists around the world were appalled by the ruling and I can only imagine this is the first domino in a long line of protests from the scientific community...

Again, I don't understand how any logical person could come to the conclusion that the ruling would help things in the future. Already leading scientists are simply getting out of the way, basically telling the public and government that they are now on their own in terms of figuring out potential disaster risk. I get the anger...I get the frustration...but sending six scientists to prison for not predicting what can't be predicted isn't going to bring anyone back or repair any of the damage, it's simply going to cause more in the future.
