Hirst Under Fire for Death of 9000 Butterflies...

The world's "Richest Living Artist", Damien Hirst, is getting some deserved criticism for his recent retrospective at the Tate Modern, and this time it has nothing to do with the quality of work. The show featured two rooms of live butterflies, free to fly around, eat, and land on visitors, but there's a darker side to this piece...according to the museum, around 9,000 butterflies died throughout the exhibits run due to a variety of circumstances. A reputable butterfly house defended the work saying that many of the butterflies lived longer than they would have in the wild due to the "high quality"environment of the museum, while PETA decried the act saying "Damien Hirst's quest to be edgy is as boring as it is callous."
