The Monograph.

I'm not sure if monograph is technically the right word, especially if I'm writing the thing myself, but this weekend I'll be setting out to produce my first high quality artist monograph of my own, focused on a live painting session to take place tomorrow afternoon over about five hours.

The piece will be a diptych or triptych of canvases between 24x48 and 36x48" each, I'll have a professional photographer taking photos of the entire process, and then I'll be writing a reflection on the experience, the piece and general thoughts on my work.

I haven't quite nailed down a subject, but the idea that's been rolling around my head for weeks now is "Vultures"...I know, not immediately informative...but then I think that's the way to go to some extent. I want to present a subject that can be interpreted in a number of ways and the process of creating the piece will only work to inform and steer those interpretations. If you want a picture that shows exactly the issue I'm talking about, go to any news site and scroll through the headline photos...If you want a personal opinion and a "discussion" of sorts, you're probably not going to get an exact translation and it won't be as easy as reading an article or watching short film...but hopefully it will be much more of a discovery, an active investigation, in terms of realizing your own views rather than just hearing what some pundit has to say.

SO! Keep an eye out starting tomorrow night for some great photography, a new piece, some new thoughts, and the start of a new project: The Daniel Fleming Monograph
