The Huffington Post takes on the issue of whether sleep-over camps are still a good idea, or if summer schools, day camps and specialty camps are the way to go...
'Should I Be Sending My Children to Camp?'
I can't comment too much on other types of camp, but some of my most important memories are from my summers spent at camp in the Northwoods. Some of the greatest, hardest, happiest and scariest moments of my life happened because of camp, and some of my most rewarding accomplishments would have never been possible without my summers there. It forced a usually shy kid to make new friends, engage in new experiences and be tolerant of people I didn't get along with instead of just avoiding them.
Camp was about experiencing the moment and growing because of it. It was about trying new things and injecting yourself into unsure experiences. It was about realizing that not everything works out perfectly, but that's not the point...and perfection isn't the only way to be happy..
It's about growing comfortable, not being comfortable.
I can't say if it's better than anything else for sure, but I can tell you that I would never be the person I am today without my summers spent at camp...
