I included a little diagram to help you out with this piece. If you read below, you can start to understand the figure before you. A powerful man (signified by the horned headdress and sword) concentrating on himself (staring at his hand) instead of what's before him. The idea is that of a ruler, person of power, or person in general, who is more interested in their own magnificence, their own sense of self-greatness, that they fail to look at the world around them...that they fail to see that their perception is not what is important....
As the viewer, we only gaze upon the ruler...but from our vantage point, this figure is unclear...a lack of clarity...a lack of understanding...a lack of connection. The idea that many people can see the same object, person, or action, and come to completely different perceptions of that.
You don't reach the top by staring in the mirror, so why do that when you finally get there?
