and a quick blurb for those who don't know...the "Gadget", as it would come to be called, was the first ever atomic bomb tested in the "trinity" test. This same bomb design would later be used to build the bomb that destroyed Nagasaki, Fat Man, the second of two bombs dropped to end WWII. The trinity test went off without a hitch at 5:29.45 am on July 6th, 1945, hurtling the world head first into the atomic age. This painting is a representation of that very moment in time, 16 milliseconds before the picture below was taken.
