NYC Bans Large Sugary Drinks

In an unprecedented move, the NYC Health Board voted to pass a ban on all sugary drinks over 16 ounces, except those found at grocery and convenience stores.
NYC passes ban on supersized sugary drinks

I'm glad we are deciding to be idiotic AND oppressive.

I'm all for being healthy, but banning a certain size of sugary drink will do NOTHING to battle obesity, on top of this being an invasion of personal freedom of choice. It will do nothing just like banning alcohol did nothing to stop drinking and creating a war on drugs has done nothing to stop drug use...

If you can't get a 32 oz. drink, maybe some people will just do the 16 oz, but most will probably just get more refills or purchase more throughout the day. Being healthy is something a consumer has to be on board with, not something that is forced upon them, especially when the law is as fickle and meaningless as this. Not only can people still get the drink, but they can still buy the very same quantities at the grocery store and just drink 2 liters all day if they want to.  Not only can they still get the drinks, but there is no change to the millions of other fatty and sugary food available. This might make some people drink less soda, but I think it's a major miscalculation which, instead of making people healthier, will just make people more defiant as their right to choose is being taken away.

Didn't any of these people realize that when you tell a kid he can't have something, it just makes them want it more?
