An "American" Flag featuring the face of President Barack Obama has caused an uproar among some veterans who say adding the image is a desecration of the flag they fought for. A group of angered veterans approached the local democratic HQ, which was flying the flag, and demanded it be taken down or that they would do it themselves. Though a chairwoman said they could not take the flag down and that it was a gift, the flag was removed after one of the veterans read this section of the federal flag code...
“[the flag] should never have placed upon it or any part of it, any marks, insignia, letters, words, figures, designs, picture or drawings of any nature."One veteran said it wasn't about politics, but about respect saying:
"I really don't care what party it is. If it had been a picture of Romney on the flag, I would have done the same thing."Another added:
“ ... You don't desecrate the flag, especially for the veterans who fought the wars and died for it. In dictatorships, they have a picture of their dictator on some of the flags, but we haven't arrived at having a dictator, yet."I'm not offended by it...but I can see why others would be and I don't think it should be flown at any kind of official political or government location...Take a look...
