Building A City: The Analysis

I really like this piece. It gave me some trouble in  the middle, and when I left the live painting portion, I had overworked it a bit....but going back in with a bit of white and some purple really lightened and opened it up.
Finished

At the end of Art City
It looks...unhappy in the second photo. Like it's struggling to hold itself up...like it's collapsing into a heap of garbage. And then you move to the top photo and it's open, it's airy, it's playful...it's welcoming. The base is still bold and strong, but as you move through the building and it's like you can peek into each open arch, stand in the open air.

I wanted the piece to symbolize the building of an idea...the construction of a new movement, the symbol of a new community. When I left the Jamboree it looked more like a destroyed past...a forgotten idea and the suffocation of our ability to move forward...like we could do nothing but let this thing decompose.

But a few simply moves and marks later and the mood of the piece totally changed. It's still hectic and unknown to an extent, but the foundation is standing, the floors a changing and the walls are open for us all to add our vision...
