Back to Graphics

My work has taken a big step back from BIG, BOLD and graphic, for the most part, recently. And a lot of it, I think, is due to my recent desire to evoke a more worked, trodden, and layered work, more reminiscent of natural process and requiring a more intimate, extended devotion from the artist.

I've felt that the work I've been producing contains a more rhythmic narrative, a narrative able to be picked up throughout the piece, naturally arising and falling instead of an abrupt "THIS IS WHAT IT MEANS" start and stop...

I decided to take a step back for The Waters Change As You Reach The Shore...and while the imagery definitely stands out, I think the idea still subtly emerges.

The idea behind the piece is simply that perception changes as you move closer to the truth. In the imagery, the waves become more vibrantly colored, along with being choppier, larger, and more abrupt. As you become more involved, as you gain more knowledge and information, your view of the situation evolves with that...It becomes more focused, it becomes more real, the conclusions begin to identify themselves...

I think it's a very simple idea, but depending on the subject, can be very powerful. What once was picturesque, simple, and carefree becomes focused, fact-facing, and consequential...

Everything looks perfect from far away
