Now that Peyton Manning has apparently decided to sign with the Broncos, who's looking worst?
The Broncos get Manning, a sure HOFer, and lose Tebowmania and all that jazz. BUT, let's not forget that Manning hasn't played in over a year and had neck surgery...not a neck massage, or your run of the mill procedure, but spinal fusion...something controversial enough that it's not even legal here in the US. I'm sure the Broncos and there fans expectations are sky-high, but there's not guarantee Manning can even play, let alone take you to a championship in his limited time left in the league...But I guess that's the same thing you could say about Tebow...so we'll call it even.
the 49ers signed oft-troubled WR Randy Moss and extended a hand to the veteran, possibly alienating current QB Alex Smith. Have fun convincing him that he's safe as your QB of the future, especially since rumors are already out that he's been talking to Miami.
The Dolphins seemed to be one of the next biggest suitors...they passed up signing Matt Flynn, backup QB in GB, who's offensive coordinator now happens to be the Miami head coach, and are now left with...well no one, and that's not a step back from last year...the rumors are swirling...one is that they will be trading for Tebow, one is they are already speaking with Alex Smith, one is they have spoken with ex-Jaguar David Garrard...
The Titans were said to have offered Manning a "contract for life", but I don't think they are in too bad of shape. They have prospect Jake Locker on the squad and veteran Matt Hasselbeck, who, even though he's injured a lot, he has been solid when he IS starting...and word is the team is allowing each QB a chance at starting...always good for pushing your guys to work harder....
I'm thinkin the 49ers done fucked up. They could go from the NFC championship game, a surprisingly fantastic season, to not having a QB, having a new teammate in Randy Moss and no one to throw him the ball...They have the defense, the running game...and Smith finally looked like a starting QB last season....and now they just risked losing it. Last year proved you can't win without a QB, and while I understand why you want Manning, I don't know why you risk good Alex Smith for neck fusion Peyton Manning...I just don't think the upside is nearly worth the risk of the downside...
