Experts suspect that the newly discovered first copy of the Mona Lisa, which has been making headlines lately, at least on this blog, was painted by Leonardo's assistant and suspected lover, Salai.
Along with this revelation comes questions of provenance. If Salai had painted the first copy, he probably had not also been gifted the original, as previously thought, casting doubt on the early history of the world's most famous painting...
