SOLD!
This piece has been a long-time favorite and is finally finding a great new home with someone who might just love it more than me...It's a larger piece...36x60...and so it's always fun to see someone interested. I know a lot of people that shy away from the larger work and worry about pricing...sometimes to the point that they won't even approach the artist out of fear of offending them, but I really think, especially at this point in my career, that working with a buyer is the best thing to do, even when they can't quite pay exactly what you want. There's nothing offensive about telling someone you like a piece enough to buy it...but you don't have quite enough...especially when there are a few ways to get around it.
One option for buying large works while still getting the artist at or close to their asking price is to pay in installments...just like rent. Instead of dropping a paycheck or two, just drop an extra bar bill per week and pay it off over a couple months. It's doesn't leave a massive hole in your bank account, you get the piece you desire, and you are supporting the artist at the level they desire and, hopefully, deserve. It might not be as convenient for the artist...but I think getting a regular check is more convenient than getting nothing at all...
So don't feel like, just because you don't have an extra thousand bucks laying around, that art is out of your reach. It might not be as easy as walking into a Target and buying a poster, but you'll get far more out it and give far more back to the people around you.
