As I posted last week, one option for buying large works while still getting the artist at or close to their asking price is to pay in installments...just like rent. Instead of dropping a paycheck or two, just drop an extra bar bill per week and pay it off over a couple months. It's doesn't leave a massive hole in your bank account, you get the piece you desire, and you are supporting the artist at the level they desire and, hopefully, deserve. It might not be as convenient for the artist...but I think getting a regular check is more convenient than getting nothing at all...
So don't feel like, just because you don't have an extra thousand bucks laying around, that art is out of your reach. It might not be as easy as walking into a Target and buying a poster, but you'll get far more out it and give far more back to the people around you.
